Lectors Peter Biľak & Radim Peško part of Sofia Design Week 2012.
Sofia Design Week ( 1 - 8 of June) is an international festival for
design and visual culture. It takes place every June in Sofia. It
features a professional forum with prominent speakers from all over the
world, as well as an extensive program of open events aimed at the
broader audience - exhibitions, workshops, discussions, talks,
screenings, parties, book openings, events for children, etc.
Sofia Design Week strives to serve as a platform which stimulates and supports the development of design professionals in Bulgaria. At the same time the festival aims to present and promote sustainable and sensible practices for better and beneficial visual environment from around the world.
This year two lectors that I chose to write about will participate.
Peter Biľak was born in Czechoslovakia, lives in the Netherlands; worked at Studio Dumbar, before started a design studio in The Hague, Netherlands, where he works in the field of editorial, graphic and type design, combined with part time teaching at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague; in 1999 started Typotheque type foundry, in 2000 founded, edited and designed art & design journal DOT DOT DOT; in 2009 co-founded Indian Type Foundry, now writing for various design related magazines; and collaborating on creation of modern dance performances.
Radim Peško is a designer currently living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His work focuses on typography as an intersection of technologies and language, type design, and occasional exhibition projects. He is a regular contributor to various publications including Dot Dot Dot magazine. He currently teaches at Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.

Tom Sachs’ Crumpled Nikes
Tom Sachs is a visual artist famous for sculptures that deconstruct and fuss around with all kinds of iconic objects, like McDonald’s and handguns. Nike’s now given him license to twist up their classic sneakers and the result is a subtle fuzzing of the shoes’ normally sharp edges, making a shoe that looks schlumpy, crumpled like a piece of paper and colored in with colored pencils.
